Andrew Palau, son of well-known evangelist Luis Palau, and local Rwandan churches have concluded the “Season of Service”, which started in April, with an evangelistic rally in the capital, Kigali. Local churches were engaged in serving their communities through projects such as improving roads, community centres, medical clinics, and the homes of HIV/AIDS and Rwanda genocide victims. More than 100 churches and hundreds of volunteers have worked together, according to the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association.
Organizers of the Season of Service (SOS) in Africa designed the initiative to coincide with the 15-year remembrance of the Rwandan Genocide that started in April 1994. SOS Africa seeks to reconstruct parts of Rwanda destroyed by the 1994 genocide, organizers explain. Andrew also spoke to 2,000 prisoners at the Kigali Central prison – the result was 89 first-time decisions and 16 re-dedications to Christ.
The Season of Service ended with a two-day Kigali Hope Festival, with Andrew Palau, held at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali on July 17-18. Attended by more than 70,000 people – over 5,000 made decisions for Jesus Christ. “The incredible response testifies to God’s work of reconciliation in beautiful Rwanda,” said Palau.
