Holistic evangelism and church ministry is being increasingly followed by Christians across China. Pastor X is from the Lisu tribe, and was sent to minister in 2010 to a churchless Hui (Chinese Muslim) community in the Changning County of Yunnan Province. Pastor X began by opening a small shop selling cold drinks and, together with his wife and 3-year-old son, started to make friends with their new neighbours.
They got to know poor and marginalised people. The pastor visited them with loving care, as well as gathering believers for sharing and prayer. Pastor X says, “I might just have rented a place and spent most of my time praying and teaching believers. Sure, these are very important matters, but now my wife and I also spend time with our neighbours and visiting people in order to express Christ’s love. This is a more powerful way to express our faith, and for this faith to be fully and concretely shown to this Hui community.”
By God’s grace the number of believers has begun to grow and they have been able to establish a legal meeting point.
